 EXTRA SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL PLAN FOR NURSES
Extended through April 30, 2002

The University and CNA have agreed to extend the current Extra Shift Bonus Program through April 30, 2002 (this date coincides with the expiration date of the master agreement). 

Based on appointment rate, a nurse who works an extra shift will earn the bonus on a BI-WEEKLY basis as outlined in the chart.  The bonus will then be paid in the nurse’s next paycheck.  To qualify, the nurse must work a minimum of 8 hours of the extra shift and the EPR must be coded and approved by the Unit Director. 

Highlights of the changes: 

Ø      Time on paid sick leave, bereavement leave, orientation or educational leave does not count as qualifying time for calculating the Extra Shift Differential. 

Ø      When a Nurse works an extra shift in a week when she/he has approved vacation, the Extra Shift Differential will be paid. 

Ø      If a Nurse initiates a trade in shifts which would cause an extra shift to be worked, the bonus will not be paid. 

Ø      In a workweek when a Nurse works a designated extra shift and is called off from or cancelled during a regularly scheduled shift, the Extra Shift Differential will be paid. 

The extra shift must be in providing direct patient care in the Medical Centers, including Westwood, Santa Monica and NPH.
